I strongly advise against no-bark collars. Punishment-based methods of training are very traumatic to dogs and generally do NOT offer long-term solutions.

There are many underlying causes for barking, including boredom, loneliness, and fear. Once you identify the reason, you can then figure out an appropriate training method. Based on the info you provided, it sounds like your dog is getting scared–a lot. This info may help:

Sometimes dogs bark to signal actual danger, but other times their fears aren’t warranted—when the mailman rings the doorbell, for example. The first thing you need to do is train your dog to be obedient and defer to you for behavior cues. After that, you can create situations where people approach and you give him treats as he behaves. To start, have someone knock on the door. Tell your dog to sit, and if he remains calm, give him a treat. Next have the person come inside and throw treats at him so he’ll associate new people with reward. Each time you do this, ask your assistant to come closer. It’s best to do this in safety of your own home, where you can predict how people will behave.

The thing is, Maltese are very prone to be bad barkers, its just one of their traits… we own 2 of them as well, and not only do they bark at random, its very high pitched and annoying as im sure u would know lol
Try the water squirt bottle, but ur going to have to keep it up all the time, as every now and then when u can be bothered wont make a difference. a lot of the time, the dog WILL be barking at something, so sometimes u might even be punshing the dog for just protecting its home, so thats ur call.
Even still, depending on the dogs age, and its personality, u may never actually get the dog out of the habit. We just give ours a whistle when we know its not for any reason, and they seem to listen to that… sometimes. Do remember the dog IS an animal and they all have different behaviors. It could also be boredom that is causing it, maybe give them some extra toys and stuff, Maltese love stuffed animals to play with, i know. Rewards also help. if ur dog is distracted enuf to not bark at something unnecissary, then give her a treat if u can.

Pay attention to why she’s barking.
If she’s alert barking, acknowledge that you heard or saw it too and then thank her once she has disengaged from the stimulus.
If it’s other than alert barking, put the barking on cue and teach her a quiet cue to use when you want her to stop.

Try getting a special kind of collar… You can give beeps or gentle shocks to the dog… It works wonders… I’m not sure what it’s called…

Give your maltese to a loving home who can handle her barking. Animals after all make noise, you need to be able to handle it.

buy a squirt bottle(its sold for plants or at beauty supply stores)
Fill bottle with water and squirt the dog when she barks.
Don’t give her any commands, don’t yell at her.She must learn, that if she barks=water squirts!
